Gerald Faulder

For Faulder, “homage” is a solemn act of reverence. His unwavering steadiness and probity yield paintings that command a quiet stillness, urging the viewer to linger. In an era awash with noise and distraction, these brief pauses become essential—tiny reservoirs where hope, optimism, and resilience can be reclaimed.

…art needs to keep evolving…

Inspired by the traditions of Canadian impressionism and the Group of Seven, Faulder works both in the studio and plein air (in the outdoors), often painting on location to respond directly to the shifting conditions of light and weather. His subjects range from the dense forests and coastal shores of the West Coast to the expansive prairie skies and rugged Rocky Mountains. Each piece conveys a sense of immediacy and connection, inviting viewers to pause and experience the subtle grandeur of the natural world.

Gerald Faulder continues to paint and exhibit in Alberta and beyond, drawing inspiration from the landscapes that surround him and sharing his vision through a body of work that is both grounded and lyrical.

Gerald Faulder’s work is driven by a desire to follow the light and rethink familiar places and sites. His landscapes explore the quiet majesty of Canada’s natural environments and convey a personal vision of these spaces—whether sweeping mountain vistas, intimate forest scenes, or the rolling prairies and foothills. With a practice rooted in observation and a deep respect for the land, Faulder captures the atmosphere and spirit of place through expressive brushwork, nuanced color, and an intuitive sense of composition.

Born in Edmonton, Gerald Faulder is a landscape painter who earned his B.F.A. at the University of Alberta (1982). He participated in Emma Lake Artist Workshops through Calgary’s Leighton Foundation (1989, 1990, 1991), and taught at the Edmonton Art Gallery (1985).

He received an Alberta Culture Travel Grant (1986), Alberta Culture Project Grant (1985), and University of Alberta Drawing Award (1981).

He’s served on the Organising Committee for artist studio visits by Clement Greenberg and Valentin Tatransky, and as a board member (1993 – present) for and president (1995) of the Edmonton Contemporary Artists Society.
