Before It’s Gone…
With this recent series, I am attempting to reflect the force and influence of these immense natural wonders by viewing them under an artistic microscope. From this perspective I hope the works spark feelings of awe and respect, in this, the United Nations' International Year of Glaciers' Preservation. The brilliant fields and palisades of snow and ice stand against an unrelenting sun releasing the waters of ancient seas. And while I am able to portray mountains still draped in glaciers, I hope my images ask the viewer to contemplate the potential impact of their disappearance on all life.
These art works are hand drawn. Beginning with a light graphite sketch, the image is then worked up using very fine tipped archival-ink pens (0.05 & 0.03). Colour is applied with chalk pastel. The white areas are for the most part just the Stonehenge paper. The works are framed with archival matting and ultra-violet museum glass.
Since 1985, Jeremy has worked as both an artist and art instructor. He is represented in private and public collections both nationally and internationally, including the Alberta Arts Foundation Public Collection, the City of Calgary Public Art Collection, and the Red Deer Civic Collection. During his studies at the Red Deer College, the University of Calgary and the Royal College of Art (London, England), Jeremy was awarded both The Princess Margaret Medal and the Governor General Michener Medal. He is a member of the Alberta Society of Artists, (president from ’02 - ’04), and the City of Calgary Public Arts Board (’04 - ’08). His work has been commissioned by private collectors and has been reproduced for four books, published by the University of Alberta Press, 4th Floor Press, North Light Publishers, and Oprelle Publications.
This is Jeremy’s 5th show at Willock and Sax Gallery.
