Dee Fontans Jewellery

"My work stimulates and excites the visual senses through movement, the manipulation of shape and the exaggeration of the body."

Dee Fontans is an internationally recognized jeweller, artist, performance artist and fashion designer based in Calgary, Alberta.

·  …her designs are very eccentric and fun to look at…she seems to be trying to dispel the old myths about men and women, and get back to basics of what makes us unique and yet so similar.

With her partner Charles Lewton-Brain, Dee founded and runs the Lewton-Brain/Fontans Centre for Jewellery Studies. The Centre promotes education in jewellery skills, techniques and the awareness of jewellery, body adornment and design. She also teaches in the jewellery department at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. She has exhibited and published in the United States, West Germany and Canada.

Dee studied at the Parson School of Design in New York City and the State University of New York at New Paltz.

Collections: Europe, Asia, United States and Canada

Dee Fontans' ladies' portraits are drawn in enameled copper. Even executed in pencil on paper this would be a charming narrative drawing. But to do it successfully in liquid enamel fired on sheet copper is both unusual and masterful (Alberta Craft Council, 2001).
